The protected nature areas play an important role in conservation of nature. The diverse categories supported by the law that conducts the National System of Unit of Conservation (SNUC) evidences varied ways to implement this protection. The Tupé’s Reserve of Sustainable Development (RDS) suggests being less restrictive, more opened to the dialogue and to respect the people who inhabit the reserve. This study encloses an area of 12.000 hectares, located in western Manaus, State of Amazonas, Brazil, that becames in 2005 the Tupé’s Reserve of Sustainable Development. To the edges of the river Negro and with innumerable natural beauties the Tupé shelters six riverside communities that they have their lives interlaced to this environment. There they organize their lives from the regimen of the rivers, in accordance with the sazonal variation of the predominant landscape of water-season, alternating to the dry-season. Under many dimensions, it could be observed how the inhabitants of Tupé experience the environment, how they know and identify themselves with this place, constructing their own territorial and personal identities from this lived space. To becoming a Unit of Conservation, doubts had emerged and social conflicts due to restrictions proceeding from the ambient politics that it started to be part of the life of these inhabitants. This work looks to evidence the occurred transformations in this lived space, from the point of view of the inhabitants of the Tupé, since the creation of the unit of conservation. This is the context that serves as base to this work, supported in the proposals of the studies of environmental perception, it aims to contribute with some forms of thinking the shock conservation of the Nature/living.
