ABSTRACT With a critical approach, this article points out four distinct and consecutive phases of the Brazilian historic urban landscape interpretation and valuation. We understand that, this interpretation and valuation parts, in a first place, from the State, and in a second place, the State attached to the market, when the Brazilian historical cities are grasped by the so called cultural “tourism”. The approach brings the geography importance – by its critical strand – on the merchandising process analysis of the cultural heritage, because only by the space-time dimension – that includes, dialectically, the culture, the politics, economy and society – we can overcome the sensitive world and dismantle the apparent independence phenomenal for the world’s cultural and natural goods. Key words: Historic Cities. Environmental Interpretation. Colonial Heritage Genesis. Heritage’s Symbolic Production. Heritage’s Initial Projection. Heritage’s Progressive Scenarization.Downloads
