Abstract

It was evaluated the symptoms, lesions and diseases related to the water environment in a period of two years by the reports of the swimmers from the Unicamp’s training team, who answered a questionaire. The current study counted with 26 university swimmers. Only one individual was not linked to the university. The average weekly distance swum was of 9 km for both sexes. Among the main swimmers’ complaints, it can be quoted: shoulder pain (50%), spinal column pain (35%), cold and influenza (31% each). Because of the low average weekly distance and the short time dedicated to training, it was not possible to associate the incidence of symptoms, lesions and diseases reported by the swimmers with the swimming trainings. The cumulative effect of other activities, paid or not, has to be considered in the health impairment of the university swimmers.
