Gender and race wage inequalities in the tourism sector in the Northeast region of Brazil, in 2023
Abstract
In Brazil, tourism contributes significantly to generating employment and income, especially in the Northeast, a region of great attractiveness. This study analyzes gender and race wage inequalities in the tourism sector in the Brazilian Northeast in 2023. It uses a descriptive and comparative approach, with data from the 2023 National Household Sample Survey (Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios - PNAD), analyzed using Stata statistical software. The analysis reveals significant wage disparities: men earn, on average, more than women and the brown population predominates among tourism workers, but faces wage inequality, especially compared to white workers. The study highlights the need for public policies to promote gender and racial equality in the tourism sector, contributing to a fairer income distribution and to the sustainable socioeconomic development of the region.
