Geological, geophysical and remote sensing data integration to the location of deep wells in fractured aquifers

Abstract

The integration of remote sensing, geological/structural and geophysical data to locate deep well in fractured domains for water exploitation is the target of this study. The remote sensing imagery, black & white aerial photographs and orbital images with high resolution from LANDSAT-TM, is analyzed to identify structural features with probability of groundwater storage, in a regional scale. Geological and structural data are collected by field survey. The electromagnetic geophysical method is applied in areas previously selected, and the data are plotted on isocondutivity maps. The integration of the results allows selecting locations for well drilling. To test the method an application was accomplished in the rural sitting Sítio Novo (Distrito Federal). The area is constituted of units of the Paranoá Group. The deep well located intercepted the clayey meta-rithmitic and psamitic-pelitic-carbonated units, in fractured domain of the Paranoá System. The production average was 10.500 l/h, higher than the regional average to the same aquifer domain. The method is evaluated as efficient, with restriction for areas where bodies that may influence in the geophysical investigation are present.
