Abstract

The Corumbataí River have great relevance for the supply of several municipalities in Rio Claro – Piracicaba region. Therefore, in view of growing urbanization and human activities, it is necessary to constantly monitor and evaluate the water quality, promoting sustainable management of the region’s water resources. In this context, the present study aimed to assess the water quality of Corumbataí River in Rio Claro in a spatio-temporal manner. Data provided by company BRK Ambiental were used for the parameters of pH, dissolved oxygen, electrical conductivity, turbidity, chemical oxygen demand and temperature between the years of 2017 and 2022. The results were compared to the standards established by CONAMA Resolution n°. 357/2005 and reference values found in the literature. The analyses demonstrated that only the pH and temperature fully met the established standards, while the other parameters showed nonconformities. In general, the water quality was strongly related to characteristics of land use and occupation at each point, with waters upstream of the urban area presenting better quality in relation to areas downstream of the urban area, where human activities are more intense.
