Abstract

This paper analyzes the effect of vibrations generated by rock blasting on the slope of the Timbopeba iron mine, which belongs to Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD). 30 records of blasting was obtained in fronts of production and development. The distance of the blasting and monitoring points ranged from 88 to 550 meters, respectively. Recorded results show that vibrations levels are low in comparison to the minimum necessary to crack the fresh rock (quartzite). On the other hand, a risk analysis was carried out using Monte Carlo simulation indicating possibility of occurrence of slope fracturing, but with low probability. In addition, significant indicators was not obtained for the regression of the law of attenuation of the vibrations.
