Abstract

The body image is an important aspect to be considered during the treatment of women with breast cancer. Therefore, we understand the importance of the quality of an instrument that evaluates this condition. The instrument validated in this study can bring new possibilities of studying the effects of cancer treatments on body image. Validation of the questionnaire, translation, cultural adaptation and pre-tests were done with women with breast cancer residents of the States of Alagoas, Pernambuco and São Paulo. A Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) demonstrated that the original model of the instrument is valid, reliable and can be an important tool for identifying the impact of breast cancer on body image of women with this health condition, allowing adjustments in clinical treatment, psychological support and actions of other professionals involved in the treatment.

Possui graduação em Educação Física pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2009) e mestrado em Educação Física pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2012). Tem experiência na área de Educação Física Adaptada, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: atividade física adaptada, imagem corporal e câncer de mama.

Maria da Consolação Gomes Cunha Fernandes Tavares, University of Campinas, Brazil

Possui Graduação em Medicina pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (1980), Graduação em Fisioterapia pela Faculdade de Ciências Médicas de Minas Gerais (1977), Mestrado em Medicina Interna pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1989) e Doutorado em Medicina Interna pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1992). Obteve o título de Livre Docente (2003) e atualmente é Professora Titular da Universidade Estadual de Campinas. Tem experiência na área de reabilitação e imagem corporal.

Angela Nogueira Neves Betanho Campana, University of Campinas, Brazil

Doutora em Educação Física pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2011), mestre em Educação Física pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2007). Especializou-se em Atividades motoras para a promoção da saúde e qualidade de vida na Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora, Faculdade de Educação Física e Esportes (2004). Graduou-se como Bacharel em Treinamento em Esportes pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2001).

Professor Livre Docente em Ginecologia pelo Departamento de Tocoginecologia da Faculdade de Ciências Médicas (FCM) da Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2008). Atua como Presidente da Sociedade Brasileira de Mastologia - Regional São Paulo (2011-2013).
