“Nature of science” studies and their potential contribution towards a more epistemological teaching of geography
Abstract
This article investigates the idea of underexplored articulations between the thematic fields of Nature of Science (NoS) – developed by researchers specialized in the teaching of the natural sciences – and Geography Teaching (GT). It aims to demonstrate that NoS has solid credentials to diversify reflections on the scientific dimension of Geography, which would also facilitate the training of teachers aware of its scope. To this end, it presents concepts from a set of well-known authors in the field of NoS, to examine the gamut of subjects that characterize this field. Lastly, it highlights the connections between NoS and GT, which could be further explored to stimulate future teachers, when working with Geography, to consider its common links with other sciences.
