Abstract

This article analyzes the process of initial and continuing education of Geography teachers who graduated from the Western Paraná State University (UNIOESTE), focusing on the Regional Education Centers (NREs) of Francisco Beltrão and Toledo. The research, grounded in the historical-dialectical materialist method, investigates the pedagogical and geographical theoretical conceptions that guided the training and teaching practice of these teachers, in addition to addressing the difficulties faced, such as teacher absenteeism and the lack of clarity regarding theoretical frameworks. The results indicate that, although most teachers claim to know the theoretical conceptions, many report difficulties in applying them in everyday school practice. This situation is aggravated by structural factors in the public school system, such as the deterioration of working conditions, the lack of public competitive examinations, and the devaluation of the profession. The study highlights the urgent need for investment in high-quality continuing education, emphasizing critical theoretical conceptions that articulate theory and practice.
