Brazilian academic diaspora: profile and mobility of researchers abroad

The main objective of this study is to analyze the profile of Brazilian professionals with Stricto Sensu qualifications who have migrated and the mobility of the Brazilian academic diaspora. To operationalize the research, a sample of 596 individuals who responded to the questionnaire (sample) who held Stricto Sensu qualifications and were Brazilian immigrants established abroad was selected from a sample of 3,888 Brazilian immigrants, obtained through a general survey, conducted with the purpose of highlighting the profile of Brazilian immigrants. The data were collected between July 2019 and March 2023. For the research, the following host countries were considered, due to the accessibility of the data that had already been collected: Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg (Benelux), Spain, France, Italy, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway (Nordic Countries) and Switzerland. Additionally, the following were carried out: bibliographic research, consultation of public agency websites and documentary research. The main findings revealed a phenomenon of brain drain with economic motivation, a sample with a female predominance and a young profile (in the economically active range), who seek better job opportunities and conditions to carry out scientific work, with many career changes when they immigrate.
