Abstract

Competitive anxiety plays a pivotal role in athletic performance and remains a central theme in Sport Psychology. Conceptually, it encompasses both somatic (physiological) and cognitive (psychological) dimensions, where the latter may manifest positively as self-confidence or negatively as performance-impairing anxiety. The Individual Zone of Optimal Functioning (IZOF) framework acknowledges that athletes respond uniquely to competitive stressors, underscoring the need for personalized monitoring tools. Thus, this study presents the development and evaluation of Ansiedômetro, a web and mobile application designed using the Design Science Research (DSR) method to assess and visualize individual competitive anxiety levels. The app was structured through four development stages (planning, research, implementation, and testing), with usability feedback collected from both athletes and coaching staff. Participants praised the app's user interface, analytical capabilities, and real-world utility. Results suggest that Ansiedômetro not only facilitates the understanding of competitive anxiety but also empowers users to make informed decisions aimed at performance optimization. The tool was well-received and demonstrated direct impact on users' performance insights. Future steps involve broader dissemination and long-term user engagement to strengthen its role in applied Sport Psychology.
