This paper describes the presentation of a class activity whose objective was to evaluate the content apprehended in the discipline of Research Techniques in Computing offered in the graduate course in Computing at UFV, Campus Viçosa. The activity addresses the creation of a scientific paper to assess the student's pre-knowledge about writing papers. The activity took place in two stages: at the beginning and at the end of the course. The first stage was based on a script handed to the students to prepare a paper based on this guideline. After this activity, a questionnaire was applied so that students could provide feedback to the teachers. The purpose of the questions was to find out how the students felt about the activity, especially about which parts of the text they found more difficult or easier to write. The other activity took place at the end of the course. Similarly, the activity consisted of writing a paper. However, the focus was on the related works section. From these evaluations, with a qualitative approach, it was possible to make some observations. Overall, some common problems related to textual agreement, organization of ideas, and logical structure of the text were identified, which interfered with the clarity of the scientific text produced by the students. As a result of the study, a suggestion for a solution is to increase activities in the classroom that more actively train students in scientific writing.
